Now that we have somewhat recovered from our red-eye back to the mainland, we can fill you in on our last day in Maui. We awoke Sunday morning and took our time packing up in order to check out of our villa by 11am. Once we said our farewells to Kapalua, we headed to Kaanapoli to get brunch at a place we like called CJ's Cafe. There we mapped out our day. Our flight was taking off from the Kahului airport at 10:10pm, so we had all day to work with. We had decided we wanted to fit in the one activity that we hadn't had time for all week - driving the infamous Road to Hana. We started out a little later than most, but we still got to see all of the glorious sights up on the northern shores of Maui, riding along through hairpin turns and switchbacks galore. Oh how fun!
We made it back to Kahului around 8pm, just in time to grab some dinner, change clothes (in the bathroom at Starbucks), and turn in our rental car. We were on the plane on time, and all went well back to Atlanta. Our good friend Stephen (both from my college days at Toccoa and grad school days at Regent) picked us up and took us back to their home, where we had left our car parked all week. Sean played with their kiddos for a bit while I caught up with Kim, and then we headed back home.
We've got to say, Maui was incredible for a vacation, but there's no place like home for the holidays. I think this old carol sums up our year well:
