Favorites

Here are our favorite things about the area so far:

  • Our gas fireplace, which rarely is turned off.
  • Our garage, where our cars sleep at night, and which keeps us from having to go directly out in the cold to start our cars.
  • Our wireless, which we finally got and allows us to be on the internet at the same time (don't ask me why we waited so long to implement this).

That's right, not much to speak of regarding the outdoor city we live in so far. Maybe it's because of the cold weather, or maybe it's because we are savoring a place of our own again.

From York, PA

Well, we're here. We drove in on Friday, even with the threat of impending snow looming over our heads. Thankfully, all went well and we have been settling in ever since. Friday night we went to the local Wal-mart to acquire a few things we couldn't live without for our first night, and on Saturday we made our annual (and sometimes quarterly) trip to the local Ikea to pick up a few things to make our next 5 months more comfortable. After putting together some furniture, I also successfully hooked up all of my various gadgets, including wireless so Sean can now do his thing on his laptop. This morning we went to the church where Sean will be working. Very good. This afternoon was spent unpacking and organizing some more. I now plan to go soak my tired body in the bathtub tonight with a good book and stay there until I catch myself falling asleep. Is that dangerous? I'm not sure, but I love it.

Oh, by the way, did I mention that the low today was 4 degrees? That's fahrenheit. Yes. Craziness for this southern blood.

Tennyson, again

I came back from a flawless trip to Denver on Monday. The weather there was beautiful and I got out just as another winter storm was scheduled to appear. If I do get hired for the project there, our residence in Denver would last for about 8 months. (Such a long stay would warrant such a long road trip out there.) Since returning to VA, Shannon and I have been babysitting my parents' golden retriever while they are away on business. Today we traveled outside of town for a day out; went to Panera for lunch and got in some shopping.

One of our favorite poets, Alfred Lord Tennyson (hence the title of this very blog), struck a nerve within our souls once again. We recently came upon the following, and is our hope for us and each of you in 2008:

"Hope smiles on the threshold of the year to come, whispering that it will be happier."
