Home Sweet Home

I began life here some 32 odd years ago, and now I've returned with my husband. We are loving life in Charlotte. Here's a quick run-down of the past 3 days:

• On the way down to Charlotte on Friday, we had to get creative with our GPS in detouring us around a massive accident on 85-S that took several hours to clear. Thankfully, my Mother had seen it on the news and called to warn us about it before we got stuck in grid-lock. It added a bit of time to our trip, but not too bad.
• Upon pulling in to the driveway of our new home, we had 3 vehicles pull in right behind us with church members bringing us a beautiful dining room table to use during our stay, and to help us unload our cars - which we did in 10 minutes with their help. One of the ladies also had already begun stocking our pantry with some essentials like milk, juice, garbage bags, plastic dinnerware, cookies, etc. Outstanding friendliness!
• We have been to either Target or WalMart every day this weekend, I think. We're missing Ikea!
• Saturday night, all of the members and spouses of the subcommittee for the church's capital campaign hosted a very nice dinner for us at the home right across the street. Everyone was so friendly, and they all keep insisting that we make a "Wish List" of things we could use in our home (since it's larger than we're used to). They are certain that there are plenty of people in the church with extra microwaves, sofas, desks, etc. One lady has even made Sean's day by telling him that she could even get a pool table in here if we want it!
• Our first day of church yesterday was lovely. The sanctuary was easily the most beautiful either of us have ever seen, and the service was very good. More formal than the church in Warrenton, but we can enjoy either setting.
• Yesterday, Sean was shown to his new office - he stood aghast in the room that looks as if C. S. Lewis might come walking out of it at any minute. A desk, computer, printer, conference table and chairs - as well as the grand furnishings - far exceed his hopes and expectations. That will be make his days spent in the church that much more of an enjoyable experience every day.
• I have been organizing like mad, and I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Obviously, the guy came to hook up the internet today, so I'm a happy camper. Sean walked home - all 2 minutes of it - for lunch, and we're already looking forward to that over the next several months.
