San Antonio Wedding

Last week at this time, I was packing up a suitcase and garment bag for a quick business trip to Chicago. There is the possibility that we could be moving there soon, but then again, we have uttered that about other points on the map. After this quick trip to the windy city, I took the red eye on early Thursday morning to Baltimore where Shannon and I rendezvoused for a flight to San Antonio (yes, thankfully we survived the craziness with American Airlines after much sweat and turmoil.) We did make it safely to the site of the "Alamo", the location where my beloved Tarheels were embarrassed a few days earlier by the Jayhawks in the men's final four, and where my brother and his bride were going to be saying "I do" at a wedding ceremony set in a vineyard.

On Saturday, staged by refreshingly warm weather and friends and family, my brother took the final step away from singleness and became one with his new best friend. It was a great day, lots of smiles, tears, and cheers. We expressed gratitude for providence, ate good food, talked, and danced to our beloved swing music and a song by Nat King Cole.

After the wedding festivities, and after saying goodbye to those we love and don't get to see nearly enough of, we headed to downtown San Antonio for an overnight stay at an eclectic hotel on the famed Riverwalk. Relaxing, refreshing, and cozy are a few good words to summarize our moment. The terrace outside of our room overlooked the water and, according to one tourist guide whom we eaves-dropped on, the bridge where Jennifer Lopez stood in the movie Selina.

The trip certainly is graded with an "A." And now we are back in PA, hoping that spring came back with us. Today did show some promise!
